Students Action Committee (SAC), Lahore organized a mock poll on Mall Road Lahore on February, 18th 2008, the very day elections were being conducted in the country. Keeping in view the security concerns and the sensitivity of the day, the organizers were not expecting a good response. However, they were determined at executing the idea on this day for its symbolic importance. The idea was to have a referendum on the legitimacy of Musharraf as the President of Pakistan where the voters had to be general public.

A senior member of FASTRising reports,

1) Raheem, a graduate of Purdue and John Hopkins University, ex-Project Manager Techlogix, an SAC activist, was assaulted by the guard of Punjab College when he was distributing the flyers of the SAC rally (scheduled tomorrow at 1.30pm, Nasir Bagh) at the road opposite the college.

SAC is trying to get an FIR registered at the Muslim Town Police Station.

Raheem is currently at Jinnah Hospital, Lahore.

2) Two activists of SAC were manhandled by the IJT (Islami Jamiat-e-Talba) …

With the removal of the pre 3rd November judiciary, there is, currently, a total lack of accountability of the ESTABLISHMENT which has:

Shown no regard for our fundamental rights
Proved highly inefficient in providing us with even the most basic necessities like Flour, Electricity and Gas
Illegally detained and tortured countless fellow students and citizens
Allowed armed pseudo-student bodies to control academic activities in major universities while suppressing student unions
Failed to meet projected economic growth & development targets

A few hours back I witnessed the start of a new year at my roof-top when the crescent marked Muharram 1st. We have entered 1429 AH with bomb blasts, suicide attacks, murders, injustice, tyranny, dictatorship, instability, chaos, mismanagement, food-shortage, energy shortage but all this doesn’t matter – our GDP is progressing !

A single roti is being sold for Rs.18 in ParaChanar but why the hell people are crying, can’t they eat bread ?
Electricity is switched off for 10-12 hours a day but why do people disturb the peace coming out …

The Dhaka debacle was indeed the worst event in the history of this nation but whats coming is much more destructing for the very existence of the state of Pakistan.
The so called war-against-terror by the ‘saviors’ of Pakistani nation is leading Pakistan to be declared a failed state, lose our nuclear weapons and eventually fragmentation of the country.
